Chronology of Major Events

2005/01 ‧South Sea Airline donated its total profit of sales on Beijing-Taipei chartered flights during Chinese New Year period to Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center; the donation ceremony was held on the 24th at YenJing Hotel in Beijing.
2005/02 ‧On September 27th last year, umbilical cord blood stem cells was donated to Germany for a 7 years old child who was diagnosed with ALD. After the operation and over a hundred days in recovery ward, the operation was a success.
‧4th, first case of umbilical cord blood stem cells donation to Singapore.
‧16th, the stem cells extraction operation was held in Buddhist Tzu Chi General Hospital in Haulien for the first case of stem cells donation to France. Tzu Chi commissioners from France delivered the stem cells on the 17th after another 12 hours flight.
2005/04 ‧13th, first case of umbilical cord blood stem cells donation in Taiwan from Cord Blood Bank of BTCSCC. It is also the first case of umbilical cord blood stem cells transplant operation carried out in the Tzu Chi General Hospital in Haulien.
2005/05 ‧ 30th, first case of Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells donation to Malaysia.
2005/07 ‧19th, first case of peripheral blood stem cells donation to South Africa.
‧20th, Marrow Donor Transplant lecture was held for the first time in Kula Lumpur's Tzu Chi Center, hosted by Tzu Chi Malaysia commissioners.
2005/08 ‧4th, first case of Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells donation from Taiwan and Transplant operation held in Buddhist Tzu Chi General Hospital was successful. The 9 years old boy, Gu, received the transplant on April 19th. On the 1st of July, the operation was confirmed successful and Gu was discharged from the hospital on the 4th of August.
2005/10 ‧ 17th, first case of Stem Cells (bone marrow) donation made to New Zealand.
‧28th, first case of Umbilical Cord Blood Stems Cells donation made to UK.
2005/11 ‧10th, first case of marrow donation to Shantung Province in China. Stem cells extraction operation was performed in the Tzu Chi Hospital in Hualien and delivered by H.F Chiang, superintendent of Shantung Cord Blood Bank, Chi-Nan Military District Hospital for a leukemia patient.
‧ 18th, BMDW (Bone Marrow Donor Worldwide), the global Bone Marrow and Cord Blood Online Matching Association has passed 10 million registries on Nov. 16th, invited all international Stem Cells Registries to celebrate this milestone. Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center is one of the members and has invited international directors from overseas registries to Jing-Si Hall in Hualien on 18th November to join the celebration event.
2005/12 ‧20th, volunteer Cari Kristufek from USA NMDP came to Hualien as a stem cells courier, delivered the stem cells to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in USA to save a patient. This donation is the 1,000th case from Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center.
‧27 years old Dr. Huynhu Thanh Thuan from Vietnam was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukaemia. He found his matched donor from Tzu Chi Stem Cells Registry. With the helps from Tzu Chi Vietnam branch, on the 24th of August he received the unrelated transplant operation in NTU Hospital, and was discharged from the hospital on the 29th of December.
‧An accumulative total of 280, 886 people registered in the donor registry. A total of 1,012 cases of bone marrow donations made to 23 countries (Taiwan, Singapore, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Mainland China, Germany, Denmark, Thailand, Korea, Sweden, UK, Norway, Netherlands, Israel, Malaysia, Switzerland, France and New Zealand & South Africa are newly included during this year). There are total 16 donations of Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells made to 6 countries (USA, Germany, this year's newly included Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and UK).
2006/04 ‧8th~9th, Buddhist Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center hosted the Asia Pacific Bone Marrow Registry Conference in which 47 guests from 14 countries came on behalf of their registries and transplant hospitals participating in the event.
‧ Upon the 40th anniversary on the establishment of Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, “Thousand Universal Affinities”was published to commemorate the success of over 1,000 matching cases in the registry.
‧ 24th, first case of donation of umbilical cord blood stem cells to Hong Kong.
‧ 30th, Bone Marrow Donation Drive was held at the Elite Book's flagship store in Taipei. The autographs for the book “Great Love of Marrow”are held and Vice-executive Lin, Dr. C.C. Lee, Dept. Chief J.S. Ho and Dept. Chief K.L. Yang attended the function as well.
2006/05 ‧2nd, Tzu Chi Hospital Taipei Branch collected peripheral blood from the donor for the first time.
‧ 18th, stem cells donation made to mainland China. 3 commissioners acted as couriers to deliver the marrow which arrived at 10:45pm same day to Hsin-Hua Hospital in Shanghai 16 hours later regardless of the Typhoon Pearl.
2006/07 ‧4th, Tzu Chi General Hospital in Hualien publicized the success of introducing the new bone marrow transplant treatment “Mini Stem Cells Marrow Transplant Operation", the third case patient Lin Mingzi was discharged from the hospital.
2006/09 ‧ 8th, first case of hematopoietic stem cells (bone marrow) donation made to Belgium.
‧13th, first case of hematopoietic stem cells (peripheral blood) donation made to Philippine.
2006/12 ‧2nd~5th, Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center hosted the “13th Anniversary Research Conference” at Tzu Chi Hospital Taipei branch.
‧ 2nd, contract signing ceremony was held on the co-operation between Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center and the registry in Korea.
‧ An accumulation of 295,055 people are registered in the bone marrow registry, there are a total of 1,217 cases of marrow donation made to 25 countries (Taiwan, Singapore, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Mainland China, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Thailand, Korea, Sweden, UK, Norway, Netherlands, Israel, Malaysia, Switzerland, France, New Zealand, South Africa, and Philippine and Belgium are included during this year). There are 17,651 collected in the umbilical cord blood stem cells registry. There are 24 cases of umbilical cord blood stem cells donations made to 7 countries (USA, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, UK, and Hong Kong are newly included in this year).
2007/05 ‧19th, first case of hematopoietic stem cells donation (bone marrow) made to Catholic Stem Cells Registry in Korea.
2007/07 ‧12th, first case of hematopoietic stem cells donation (bone marrow) made to Turkey.
2007/08 ‧Da Ai TV Drama, “Sunshine in life”, is the true story about senior care team members, Dr. Lin and Ms Hsu.
‧ First case of one donor's donation to save 2 lives, a pair of young brothers in Thailand. It was delivered by the center's director and deputy director.
2007/11 ‧13th, marrow donation made to overseas has reached number 1,000th case. Superintendent Dr. Shih handed over the marrow to the staff from Minnesota University marrow transplant center and volunteers from USA marrow registry, to save a 16 years old girl's life. This is also the number 5,000th case for the Minnesota Medical Center that started the first bone marrow transplant operation in the world.
2007/12 ‧An accumulative total of 307,506 people registered in the marrow donor registry, there are 1,476 marrow donations mad to 26 countries (Taiwan, Singapore, USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Mainland China, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Thailand, Korea, Sweden, UK, Norway, Netherlands, Israel, Malaysia, Switzerland, France, New Zealand, South Africa, Philippine, Belgium, and Turkey is newly included in this year). There are total 23,088 collected umbilical cord blood stem cells in the registry. There are 31 cases of umbilical cord blood stem cells donations made to 7 countries (USA, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, UK and Hong Kong are newly included in this year).
2008/04 ‧April 21st, Dr. Cladd Stevens, Medical director of New York Blood Center, USA, visited Dharma Master Cheng Yen for Her effort in creating Tzu Chi Foundation, promoting "Bodhisattva in Human World", and build up Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanity four Missions and eight tasks, accompanied by Director Yang, Cord Blood Bank.
‧ On the 28th, Superintendent of Beijing Dao Pei Hospital, Duan Hsuan, together with 2 academics from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and China's Blood Disease expert D.P. Lu, came to Taiwan to visit Tzu Chi. Accompanied by Vice-executive Lin, Superintendent M.H. Shih, Cord Blood Bank Director Yang. Section Chief C.Y. Chang, Secretary General N.Y. Chen, visited Master Cheng Yen at the Abode.
2008/05 ‧19th, first case of stem cells (peripheral blood stem cells) donation to Spain.
2008/10 ‧19th~21st,Celebration of 15th Anniversary and Certification Courses for Recruitment group instructors. Announcing the preparation for the application of International Accreditation. Total of 260 Recruitment group members passed all the tests of the first annual instructor training and became almighty instructors.
2008/12 ‧8th, Tzu Chi General Hospital in Hua-Lien started using the second Stem Cells Collection Room, while initial testing of the electronic blood drive was successfully accomplished at the lobby.

2009/02 ‧20th, 700th case of PBSC donation of BTCSCC delivered to Southern Hospital of Guan-Chow, China.
2009/03 ‧28th~29th, Certification Courses for Recruitment group held in Taipei and Kaoshiung at the same time.
2009/04 ‧12th, The first formal electronic blood drive started in Taipei East Branch Office.
‧25th~26th, Certification Courses for Recruitment group held in Central Changhua, Yunlin-Chiayi and Hsingchu at the same time.
2009/10 ‧10th, Hosted「Double 1000 Happiness Thanksgiving Get-Together」to celebrate 2000 cases of Stem Cells Donation.
‧10th~11th, Hosted BTCSCC Recruitment Group Instructors Educational Training.
2009/11 ‧17th, Led by Assistant Director Qin-Po Zo, CMDP(Chinese Marrow Donor Program) members visited BTCSCC on 17th, Nov. They were hosted and communicated with Dr. Lin Jin-Ron, CEO of Medical Mission, Dr. Shyr Min-Huang, Superintendent of BTCGH and Director of BTCSCC, Dr. Yang Kuo-Liang, Vice Director of BTCSCC and Director of HLA Lab/ Cord Blood Bank, and Ms. Chang Chu-Yu, Section Chief of Marrow Donor Registry.

2010/04 ‧17th, 1000th case of PBSC donation of BTCSCC delivered.
2010/10 ‧1st, BTCSCC received WMDA accreditation based on benchmark standards.

2011/03 ‧1st, First case of hematopoietic stem cells donation (PBSC) made to Russia.
