How to Register and Become a Donor

 

What Should I know?

1.
We welcome anyone between the ages of 18 and 45 register with our databank and become a potential donor.
   
2.
Upon registering, it is important and advisable to obtain familys consent and support.
   
3.
Must bring ID and National health insurance card on the day of registration.
   
4.
Must meet the health criteria.
   
5.
Tzu Chi’s Stem Cells Center holds frequently blood drive events in various locations to promote donation and collection of blood samples. The coming month events and venues will be posted on the website by each month end.

Matching HLA

1.
10 ml of blood sample (not bone marrow) is taken from the arm when registry, and the registrant is free to go home immediately.
   
2.
Blood sample is then delivered to Human Immunogenetics Lab for further HLA exam and classification.
   
3.
Potential donors information and HLA classification results are stored in the database.
   
4.
Donor’s HLA classification results are transmitted to the Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW) where the data is available to all patients worldwide. If a match is found, Tzu chi will contact the potential donor for a confirmatory typing test to make sure a high resolution matching and then passes the physical exam before transplant can be done.
